Bringing Transparency to Government, One Job at a Time

Media Partnerships Manager (Full-time)

Sunlight Foundation | Washington, DC
January 19, 2010 —

The Sunlight Foundation is hiring ambitious, top talent in media, technology and politics who will join our Engagement Team in driving widespread awareness and adoption of Sunlight’s tools and platforms.

In other words: We need a very well connected, experienced communicator and partnership builder who will develop a marketing plan for Sunlight and make it happen.

A bit more specifically, the Sunlight Media Partnerships Manager will report to the Sunlight Engagement Director and lead Sunlight’s outreach to online media outlets, political and community focused websites, and other potential partners for Sunlight’s array of open government news tools, datasets, and mobile and web-based applications such as our iPhone and Android apps.

Sunlight’s existing and soon-to-come applications make it easy to view and share basic to advanced information on Congress, and embed that information in news stories, blog posts and other forms of online journalism. These are some initial examples of the types of (free) applications and widgets the Media Partnerships Manager would be responsible for marketing to online news and media outlets:

• Simple Congressional biography: Picture, name, state, district, party, website, office phone, etc.
• Congressional Business card: Picture, name, official website, YouTube page, Twitter page, OpenCongress profile, GovTrack page, OpenSecrets profile, etc.
• District map: A map of a legislator’s state (mentioned in a story), the shape of their district, major cities pointed out within the piece.
• Congress Batting average: Statistics on how many bills a legislator (mentioned in a news story) has sponsored, cosponsored, that have been introduced, passed, signed, etc.
• Congress Top contributors: A list of the top contributors to a legislator for the most current election cycle. This could be top entities, top industries, etc, and would include amounts.
• Capitol Words: Most used words, in cloud form, list form, or otherwise.
• Bill Report: What a legislator voted on a particular bill, versus what everyone else voted on the bill.
• Interest group ratings: What various interest groups (NARAL, NRA, etc.) have rated this legislator in their most recent evaluation.
• Congressional Recipients Top contractors in the District

In general, the Media Partnerships Manager, and the projects and partnerships they develop, will be an integral component of Sunlight’s engagement strategy as we both ramp up media production and launch new campaigns and products through 2010 and beyond.
